Paul Neville

Paul Neville left his family home in London, England, to join the Royal Marines Band Service. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and upon completion of his studies he joined the H.M.S. Tyne as director of music, home fleet. In July, 1959, he was appointed director of music training with the rank of captain. From Junior Wing, he moved to Plymouth Group Band for one year before being named director of music of the Portsmouth Group in 1961. While serving in this position, he made many Royal tours aboard the H.M. Yacht Britannia. Neville was made a Member of the Victorian Order in the 1966 New YearÃs Honours List in recognition of his service. In October, 1968, he was named to succeed Lt. Col. Sir F. Vivian Dunn as principal director of music for the Royal Marines. In June 1977, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire. He retired from the Royal Marines in October, 1978, and has since been teaching music in Canterbury.
