Norwegian conductor, composer and violinist. Born in Drammen. Studied music in Christiania and Stockholm. Concertmaster in Bergen before leaving for eight years of studies and working abroad.

Conducted the theater orchestra at “Den Nationale Scene”, Bergen, between 1893 and 1899. In 1899 he was appointed as the cunductor of the newly opened Natioonaltheateret (Christiania National Theater). A position he held for 30 years until he retired in 1929. The orchestra was for a long time the only professional orchestra in Christiania.
