Colonel Bogey
From Marchdb.net
Composed by Kenneth J. Alford in 1914.
Colonel Bogey was inspired by a military man and golfer who whistled a characteristic two-note phrase (a descending minor third interval) instead of shouting “Fore!”. It is this phrase that begins each line of the melody.
In 1957 composer Malcolm Arnold used Colonel Bogey as the main theme in the movie “Bridge on the River Kwai”. The film won seven acdemy awards, including best music.
